Holiday Guide 2011: Six Nonprofits Collecting Holiday Donations

With the down economy, many non-profit and charitable organizations are relying on holiday donations even more so this year. For those in the giving spirit, here’s an easy go-to list of six places to donate during the holidays in Garden City and Mineola:

• Island Harvest – donations of food or funds.
• Maurer Foundation
• American Red Cross
• Marine Toys for Tots Foundation – toys at local drop off locations or monetary online giving.
• High Top Shop – a 501(c)3 charity that donates all of its proceeds to variouschildren’s causes. The shop carries gently used and new items for the home. 
• Salvation Army – collecting outside many supermarkets in our area.
