Mineola Firefighters Give Out Halloween Treats at Winthrop

Firefighters 'treat' pediatric patients with popcorn balls for Halloween.

With many of the children (and even some of the young at heart) in the village of Mineola missing Halloween due to Hurricane Sandy and the ensuing unsafe conditions such as downed wires and blacked out streets, the Mineola Fire Department went door-to-door distributing popcorn balls in a reverse trick-or-treat.

A group of firefighters also ventured over to Winthrop-University Hospital to give some of the treats to a pair of children in the maternity ward whose mother was expecting their new sibling.

However, unable to find the children and with a large box of popcorn balls, the firefighters, consisting of ex-Captain Joe Neves, Jeff Mota, Eric O’Brien, Lt. Mike DiMartino, Paul Lopes, Mike Fernandes, Phil Mota and driver Paulo Martins, distributed them to patients in the pediatric ward, making their stay in the hospital a bit more tolerable and ensuring a Happy Halloween.
