Did I Do That? Why You Do What You Do.

Some of us may remember the screeching sound of “Did I do that” delivered by the lovable, yet somewhat annoying nerd Steve Urkel on the sitcom Family Matters.  Despite his best efforts, invariably he found himself in situations requiring multiple apologies and undoubtedly a slew of cleaning products to fix the mess he made.

So what does this have to do with you?  To some degree, there will be a time for most of us when we react in ways that are unexpected or undesirable.

Do you find that despite your best efforts, sometimes you surprise yourself by your own actions and reactions to certain situations in your life?  If you find yourself asking “Did I do that” more than you would prefer, there are some things you may want to consider.

Firstly, 

Thoughts generate feelings.  Whether conscious or unconscious, your thoughts are responsible for what you feel.

Secondly,

Emotions are the catalyst to action.
 Your behaviors are the result of the feelings you are experiencing.  Your perceptions will push you to act in order to avoid pain or pursue pleasure.

Keep these ideas in mind next time you find yourself wondering, why did I do that?  It is the key to understanding and creating a new way of being.
