Linda Napoli of Mineola was named as a recipient of the Muriel Neufeld Ethical Humanist Award, an honor given to individuals who have been a member for 25 years.

Ms. Napoli has been a member of the board of trustees of the Ethical Humanist Society, which is located in Garden City, and was the director of the Sunday School for 11 years.

In addition to her volunteer work at the Ethical Society, Neufeld has been vice president and board member of the Nassau Chapter of the NY Civil Liberties Union. She was a founding member of the Long Island Bail Commission and was a board member of the Fund for Modern Courts.

In presenting the award, Richard Rapp, former president of the Ethical Society and a recipient of the Neufeld Award as well, stated that Napoli has brought her love of poetry to the Ethical Society in the selection of a poem that is read at each Sunday morning meeting.

“The Long Island Ethical Humanist Society would be a much poorer place without Linda Napoli’s record of outstanding service and her revered presence that we have come to depend upon for so long,” Rapp said in a statement.

In the same release, Napoli added that “I appreciate the honor and recognition of my dedication to a place I call my spiritual home.”

The Neufeld award was established in honor of Muriel Neufeld of Great Neck who has been a member of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island for nearly 60 years.
