Spring Fashion Trends at Saks

Patch fashion blogger Maria Ruggiero talks spring trends at her charity fashion show at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Hey everyone!

So this weekend I hosted my first ever fashion show at Saks Fifth Avenue in Huntington Station to benefit the National Association of Anorexia and Associated Disorders (ANAD).

I had a blast styling the models with Saks’ entire contemporary department at my fingertips. Hello, dream closet!

Using three models, I demonstrated how to wear four Spring 2012 trends three different ways.

Here are the trends I picked and some options for how to wear them:

Neons: Take this electic trend to the max with a bright top, blazer or even pair of pants, or tone it down a bit by keeping your outfit neutral (a white dress, for example) and adding a pop of color with neon shoes or accessories.

Embellishments: Spring 2012 is very influenced by the glamorous 1920s, and embellishments such as beading and sequins are a great way to play into the flapper style. For a night out, opt for metallic sequins on a simply cut dress, or for day choose a light tank with fun beading around the neckline. One of our models even rocked a pair of sequin pants!

Prints: This is the season to have some fun with your wardrobe. Floral is a spring must-have, whether it's a big, bold print or a subdued, ladylike version. I picked out a beachy maxi-dress paired with a straw hat and some great gold jewelry. We're still seeing leopard and snakeskin prints as well, but a twist on animal print that we saw on the Spring 2012 runways from designers like Marc Jacobs was literal animals becoming prints. I picked a bird printed, button down top and paired it with funky turquoise jeans and fun pink Tory Burch sandals. Tribal prints are also huge right now, and can be seen is so many different forms blending great colors. I found a pair of silky harem pants with a tribal-inspired print and paired them with a simple white shirt.

Pastels: My favorite trend this spring, pastels are so girly and sweet! Mix and match light pinks, mint greens, sky blues and pale yellows or pick one cute piece such as a skirt, scarf, blazer or even nail polish.

In case you missed the show, Huntington Patch editor Rich Jacques captured it on video !

What's your favorite spring trend?

Bring on the sunshine!

xoxo,

Maria
