Bill Poss Sr., 92, Colonial Inn Owner

Former Mineola resident passed away on May 25, 2013.

Bill Poss Sr. passed away on the morning of May 25, 2013 at the age of 92. He was born on July 22, 1920, in Brooklyn, New York. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Millie, whom he married on Dec. 7, 1941.

He was a proud veteran of World War II, having served 3 years as Master Sergeant in the United States Army in the Pacific and a member of the American Legion for over 50 years.

Raising his family on Long Island, New York, he was a restaurant and tavern owner. The Colonial Inn in Mineola, New York, became a family gathering spot to generations with many stories of the characters who called the Colonial a second home. Bill and Millie retired to Daytona Beach before moving to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, to be near family.

He adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a father figure to them all. “Dad” to Barbara Soho Bleich of Glenwood Springs, CO, and Bill Poss, Jr. (Jayne LaFountain Poss) of Aspen, CO; he was “Pops” to his grandchildren Nicolas Soho (Jenny Sands Soho) of Basalt, CO, and William Walter Bleich of Fort Collins, CO, and Page LaFountain (Christopher Parsons) of Carbondale, CO, and Tate LaFountain of Aspen, CO; known adoringly as “Pop Pop” by his great-grandchildren, Wade William Soho, Lila Jane Soho and Jack Harper Parsons.

He will be remembered as a proud father, loving grandfather and a “friend” to family and customers.
