Donald Dean Hoffmann, 79, Air Force Veteran

Former Mineola resident passed away on Jan. 20, 2013.

Donald Dean Hoffmann of New Bern, NC passed away on Jan. 20, 2013.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1934 in Mineola, NY to Charles and Viola Hoffmann. offmann served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957, returning to Long Island and on July 9, 1960 married Frances Bardwell.

During that time he began his career with Eastern Airlines. He worked at Eastern for 26 years at Idlewild Airport (JFK International), LaGuardia Airport, Charlotte-Douglas Airport, Bradley Field in Hartford, CT and Pensacola Regional Airport.

Hoffmann was also a police officer and later police chief for the Town of Wales, MA, from 1971 to 1979. The family moved to Gulf Breeze in 1982.

Hoffmann and Fran remained in Gulf Breeze until 2005 when they relocated to New Bern.

He was preceded in his journey by his parents and his brother, Roy. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Fran; his son, Curt Hoffmann of Bayboro, NC, and his daughter Vicky and son in law Tim McCabe of Gulf Breeze, FL.

Hoffmann was a devout Lutheran and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church while in Pensacola. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havelock, NC.

There will be a memorial service for Don at Immanuel Lutheran, 24 W. Wright St., on Feb. 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. followed by inurnment at Barrancas National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m.
