John D. Clemen, Vietnam Veteran, 67

Former U.S. Air Force Captain passed away on July 30, 2012.

John D. Clemen passed away on July 30, 2012 at the age of 67. Born in Mineola to parents John and Amy, Clemen was a graduate of Tenafly High School before going on to Hobart College, earning his B.A. in European history in 1966.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam from 1966-1971, being promoted to captain at the end of his service time.

After returning home, Clemen earned his law degree from Seton Hall in 1974, being the editor of the law review and clerking for a New Jersey Supreme Court Justice. He later became a 24-year partner at Shanley & Fisher in Morristown with a specialty in aviation law. He was also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Retiring in 1999, Clemen continued to practice until 2005. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 153 in Park Ridge.

Clemen is survived by daughter Elizabeth Anne Coletta and her husband Cliff, and Jennifer Clemen and her partner Linnea Carenza, granddaughter Nelina Elle Coletta, siblings Cynthia Clemen Peckham, David Clemen, and Christine Clemen Brandorff. He was married to Judith Davis for 40 years; from 1967 to 2007.

A funeral was held at the Becker Funeral Home in Westwood. The interment was at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle N.J. Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
