Michael Harmon, Chaminade Alumni, 91

Former Flyer worked as LIRR ticket clerk for 33 years.

Michael Harmon’s life revolved around trains, quite literally. The Holbrook resident spent 33 years at the ticket booth of the Long Island Railroad and survived a 1947 train crash on the Pennsylvania Railroad.

According to a Newsday obituary, Harmon was on his way to surprise his wife with an appearance in her home state of Pennsylvania, where she was visiting her parents.

He passed away at Stony Brook University Hospital at the age of 91 due to age-related medical issues.

He began working for the LIRR shortly after graduation, retiring in 1975.
