He was born in Mineola, New York to John Dykers Nichols and Delia Franklyn Nicholson Oct. 12, 1929. He was employed as an accountant for a number of small businesses until he retired to Panama City in 1996.
Romaine is survived by his son, Romaine Charles Nichols, Jr., MD, his daughter in law Christine Claire Nichols JD, and three grandchildren, Alexandra Jean Nichols, Graham Charles Nichols and Colin Jacob Nichols.
The family wishes to offer special thanks to his primary caregiver Rose Henley as well as the nurses, social workers and clergy of Covenant Hospice who supported him in his final days: Moira Cistola RN, Mary Ann Starling, Ladonna Kellum, The Rev. Steve Watson, The Rev. Virgil Tillman and the staff of the Inpatient Care Center at BMC.
A private memorial ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bay County Humane Society.
