I am urging House Speaker John Boehner and other House leaders to allow a vote on a much-needed federal relief package to help the millions of Long Islanders and other New Yorkers who are suffering the short- and long-term effects of Superstorm Sandy.
A $60 billion aid package passed in the Senate by a vote of 62-32, but the House Republican Majority also needs to bring the package up for a vote for it to reach the people who need it.
We were there after Katrina and we were there after the floods in the Midwest, and now we need the House leadership to be there for us here on Long Island and in the tri-state area. The state and local governments can’t do this alone. The Senate has seen the importance of helping the victims of Superstorm Sandy; I’m asking Speaker Boehner and his colleagues in the House Majority to act as soon as possible so we can get this aid delivered as soon as possible.
