Mineola Mayor's Message: Girl Scout Ceremony and Street Fair

Mayor Scott Strauss encourages residents to come to the annual street fair on September 30.

The following are the opening remarks of Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss made during the public meeting of the Mineola Village Board on Sept. 19, 2012:

Last week I had the honor of attending a Girl Scouts award ceremony here at the community center where they gave out the bronze, silver and their highest award, the gold award. I’d like to congratulate every one of them as well as their leaders for running a great program. Scouting is certainly one of the great youth organizations that we have here in the village.

Thank you all who attended our 9/11 ceremony. It was great seeing all of our community organizations and residents come out and remember that terrible day, not only those that were lost but those who lived through that day and those who responded there.

Saturday I attended two ribbon-cutting ceremonies. I’d like to welcome Mineola Pharmacy on Second Street as well as Island Pottery on Willis venue to our village.

One last thing, let’s not forget the village street fair on September 30, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. down in the downtown area. The chamber of commerce has worked incredibly hard to make this a great day as it was last year.
