Mineola’s Most-Run Stop Signs

Which ones are disregarded the most?

Chances are either you or someone you know has rolled through a “Stop sign” or come to a “sliding stop” at some point in their vehicular career. With the approach of school opening, the police will once again be starting their “Slow Down, Schools Open” campaigns. But what if there is no “Stop” sign? Do you slow down anyway just to be safe because you know others don’t?

Do you know of a location where a stop sign is frequently rolled through or ignored? Tell us where it is in the comments.

Very few people stop at the stop sign on the corner of Kennedy and Latham Rd coming off of Herricks road by Herrill bowling alley. Also the stop sign on Wilson Blvd from Herricks Rd down to Emory Rd.

People barely slow down at ANY of the stop signs on Garfield between Herricks and Mineola Blvd. One of these days, somebody is going to get hit, and then it will be too late.

needs repeating: the corner of Kennedy Lane and Latham Road off Herricks and the corner of Latham Road and Watkins Drive, which is also a school bus stop for several buses. I've witnessed dozens of near misses and horn blowing and drivers screaming at one another!! something needs to be done, NOW!

I live between Jericho and Jackson and pretty much all the stop signs through out the neighborhood are rolled or Ignored. The worst times are at night and during school when kids are walking to a from school.

I nominate the stop signs at the corner of my block -Wardwell and Jefferson. It is a quick cut thru block bypassing the Herricks intersection so a lot of people are in a hurry but come on -- slow down and stop ! Better safe then sorry .

I do not know what you mean by a "senior building." Please be more specific. If you areRead More talking about the Winston-Churchill project and not a senior assisted living facility, we have a small update here: http://mineola.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/flood-mitigation-apartment-projects-moving-forward

Funny how neither comment addressed John's point. A good one BTW...

Vincent - I don't care what the cost per child is. The actual costs are for teacher andRead More administrator salaries, benefits, pensions etc. Patti - many of the parents and children are living in apartments and houses, some legally and some not, but definitely not in houses that they own. SLJ - Thank you!

Ms. Purdy: This is also a act that Mr. Herling should be refering to. An article in the WillistonRead More Times dated Friday May 24, 2013 states: "The Herricks Board of Education is hopeful that a bill drafted by state Sen. Jack Martins(R-Min) to financially penalize landlords who create illegal apartments will stop the practice in the Hericks school district. The bill in it's current form would empower the school district or a municipality in a school district to bring legal action against a landlord who creates an "unapproved conversion" of a single family or two family house to recoup the expense of educating children in those living situations in district shools." And if you don't think the same is happening in the Mineola School District I don't know what to say other than it's your tax money.
