NRA Chief’s Remarks ‘Out of Touch’

Rep. McCarthy reacts to NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre’s remarks on Meet the Press.

Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy issued the following remarks in response to NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre’s remarks on Meet the Press:

The NRA leadership’s refusal to consider any new laws to keep the most dangerous weapons out of the hands of the most dangerous people shows just how out of touch it is with the American people and even its own membership.

This position doesn’t speak for law-abiding Americans, including gun-owners, concerned about gun violence – it speaks for the corporate manufacturers who stand to make millions off of its chief lobbyist’s dream of a “guns everywhere” America.

After seeing the horrific massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Americans want to do more than stop the bad guy with the gun – we want to stop the bad guy from getting the gun in the first place.

Carolyn McCarthy is the representative of New York’s Fourth Congressional District. She was first elected in 1996.

Americans want to address the "bad guy" as Hon McCarthy puts it. But that would direct attention to the causes, not the means. Firearms do not teach kids how to handle loneliness, frustration, disengagement, anger... Violent games and violent television shows do. Every sick kid wants to be the Hollywood mass killer. The media markets violence. The media also markets political candidates. Hmmm...

I totally agree with McCarthy. All States should have tough gun control laws like NY and CT. Everybody deserves a chance for their totally disarmed "loved" ones to be shot cowering in a corner so that they can launch a brand new political career off of their corpses

Everyone deserves a chance to defend themselves. It is an inalienable right.
