On House Adjourning Without Approving Sandy Aid

Sen. Jack Martins issued the following statement on unvoted $60 billion aid package.

The following statement was issued by Sen. Jack Martins following the adjournment of the U.S. House of Representatives without voting on a $60 billion aid package to the areas affected by Hurricane Sandy.

There are people living without heat, running water and electricity during the coldest days of the winter and the House of Representatives adjourns without approving the aid. Shame on them.

It’s an embarrassment and a disgrace. There are people struggling from the effects of a devastating storm. To  just go home without even a vote is inexcusable.

Sen. Jack Martins is the representative of New York's Seventh Senatorial District. He was elected to the State Senate in 2010 as a Republican from Mineola.

Let's make sure BEFORE a bill is passed, that it contains money for those affected by Hurricane Sandy ONLY...currently there are plans to give money for projects throughout the country. Why send money to Alaska for a hurricane that hit the Northeast?

The Senate version contained some pork, the House version stripped it out. This was politics, pure and simple. This was House Speaker Boehner slapping Chris Christie for having the gall to praise Obama's response to Hurricane Sandy. One only need to listen to Pete King's response to know it was pure GOP punitive action.

Actually the bill was not stripped out of pork, hence one of the reasons why it was not initially voted on.

I do not know what you mean by a "senior building." Please be more specific. If you areRead More talking about the Winston-Churchill project and not a senior assisted living facility, we have a small update here: http://mineola.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/flood-mitigation-apartment-projects-moving-forward
