I join New Yorkers and Americans everywhere as we remember the worst terrorist attack on our soil ever today, and pray for the victims and their families.
I also honor our brave first responders, servicemen and servicewomen who leapt to action on 9/11 and in the days that ensued, including so many from neighborhoods all over Long Island like the ones I represent.
The attack 11 years ago hurt badly, but it made us stronger and showed the courage and patriotism in countless Americans, from the first responders to our military to the construction and office workers who are bringing Lower Manhattan back to its glory today.
Looking ahead we must continue to be vigilant – not just in rebuilding, but in making sure another attack doesn't happen – and I fully support our military and law enforcement in those efforts.
