Thank Who? Ed Mangano?

We've all seen the signs. Atop taxi cabs. On lawns. Even on our TV screens.

"Thank you, Ed Mangano, for not raising my taxes."

Really?

Maybe I'm living in an alternate universe (or my County taxes are going up while everyone else's are going down), but my property tax bill reflects just the opposite: Nassau County Property Taxes have gone UP under Ed Mangano!

If you don't believe me, just look at your Statement of Taxes.

In 2010, Ed Mangano's first year as County Exec, the Nassau County tax for "General Purposes" increased by 4.72%.

In 2011, the same Nassau County General Tax levy increased by another 9.89%.

That's a nearly 15% property tax increase in just two years!

Still don't believe me? Well, don't take my word. Look at your own property tax bills. Has your Nassau County tax gone down?

I don't think so!

There's an old saying that if you tell a lie long enough, and say it loud enough, people will begin to believe it as the truth.

Ed Mangano hasn't raised your taxes? Don't you believe it!

And as for the County's debt? Well, Ed Mangano makes Tom Gulotta look like a miser. Talk about borrow and spend, to the tune of $3 billion! And who do you think will have to pay for that debt? The taxpayers of Nassau County. That's YOU!

Thank who? Ed Mangano?

For all the talk about lowering taxes (Mr. candidate of the Tax Revolt Party), or, for that matter, fixing the Assessment system or getting a handle on Nassau County's burgeoning debt, Ed Mangano's actions speak a heck of a lot louder than the words on those signs.

Another four years of tax increases, high assessments, and out of control debt? No thank you, Ed Mangano!
