U.N. Recognition of ‘Virtual Palestinian State’ Undermines True Peace

Rep. McCarthy issues statement following November 29 United Nations vote.

The November 29 vote by the United Nations General Assembly to recognize a Palestinian state undermines true peace and is appalling given the recent terrorist attacks on Israel coming from Palestinian-held land.

Today’s U.N. vote to recognize a virtual Palestinian state undermines true peace with Israel, when only through direct negotiations with Israel can the Palestinians achieve a fully-recognized state with agreed-upon borders.

It’s especially appalling that this unilateral, backdoor attempt at statehood comes just days after hundreds of rockets launched from Gaza towards Israeli cities – terrorist attacks that the Palestinian Authority failed to stop before bringing its people to the brink of war.

We must stand up to reject violence and terrorism and support only a mutual agreement to statehood through direct negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians themselves. I strongly oppose today’s vote and urge my colleagues to do the same.

Carolyn McCarthy is the representative of New York’s Fourth Congressional District. She was first elected in 1996.

The United States and it's wishes are totally irrelevant in our world, today, especially in the United Nations--a truly corrupt instititution. We, the people of the United States, pay the biggest share to keep this sham in existence--not to mention the additional expense that New York city residents bear. Cut off funding and boot it from New York. Good Riddance!

I do not know what you mean by a "senior building." Please be more specific. If you areRead More talking about the Winston-Churchill project and not a senior assisted living facility, we have a small update here: http://mineola.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/flood-mitigation-apartment-projects-moving-forward

Funny how neither comment addressed John's point. A good one BTW...

Vincent - I don't care what the cost per child is. The actual costs are for teacher andRead More administrator salaries, benefits, pensions etc. Patti - many of the parents and children are living in apartments and houses, some legally and some not, but definitely not in houses that they own. SLJ - Thank you!

Ms. Purdy: This is also a act that Mr. Herling should be refering to. An article in the WillistonRead More Times dated Friday May 24, 2013 states: "The Herricks Board of Education is hopeful that a bill drafted by state Sen. Jack Martins(R-Min) to financially penalize landlords who create illegal apartments will stop the practice in the Hericks school district. The bill in it's current form would empower the school district or a municipality in a school district to bring legal action against a landlord who creates an "unapproved conversion" of a single family or two family house to recoup the expense of educating children in those living situations in district shools." And if you don't think the same is happening in the Mineola School District I don't know what to say other than it's your tax money.
