Accident Occurs at Herricks Road and Jericho Turnpike Wednesday

At least one person treated at scene after cars collide.

Two cars collided on the Mineola-Garden City Park border on Wednesday afternoon, snarling traffic during the height of the afternoon rush hour.

The accident occurred at about 4:50 p.m. when a Hyundai sedan collided with a Mercedes sedan at the intersection of Herricks Road and Jericho Turnpike.

Further details on the accident were not available. One eyewitness said that the event happened in a “matter of seconds.”

The driver of the Hyundai was treated by a Nassau County Police ambulance at the scene in the driveway of the Sunoco gas station. It was not known if the driver was removed to an area hospital.

From observances made at the scene the front passenger side corner of the Hyundai appeared to have impacted the rear passenger door of the Mercedes.

The condition of the driver of the Mercedes was not known.

Nassau County Police closed off several lanes of the intersection, including one northbound lane of Herricks Road, causing backups almost to the Long Island Rail Road trestle.
