Albertson Fire Leaves One Man Dead,Wife in Critical Condition

Albertson, Williston Park, East Williston and Mineola Fire Departments responded to the scene, police said.

A house fire in Albertson left a 95-year-old man dead, and his critically injured Tuesday, authorities said.

The fire occurred at 10:40 a.m. on Park Lane Drive, Nassau police said.

When Third Precinct Police Officers James Duignan, a 28-year veteran, and Scott Thiel, a 19-year veteran, arrived at the scene, they found the home fully engulfed.

The officers managed to gain entry through the front door and found an 86-year-old woman unconscious on the floor.  After removing the victim, the officers re-entered the home and found a 95-year-old man unconscious approximately six feet further inside.  

Both victims were removed from the home, and  transported to a local hospital. The man was pronounced dead by hospital staff.  The female victim is listed in critical condition.

Albertson, Williston Park, East Williston and Mineola Fire Departments responded to the scene with 100 firefighters and 20 pieces of apparatus to extinguish the fire.

Police did not reveal the victims name, and said there was no no criminality.
