Brasa Rodizio Evacuated Due to Smoke

Smoke reportedly electrical in nature, filling space between ceiling structures.

Smoke stemming from an electrical fire caused the evacuation of restaurant in Mineola on Wednesday night.

Patrons of the restaurant on Herricks Road had been enjoying their meals when according to two women the fire alarm sounded several times and members of the arrived asking the diners to exit the building.

A total of five engines responded to the scene at about 8:39 p.m. Wednesday night, running hoses to the back of the building where the kitchen is located, as well as up to the roof.

According to Mineola Fire Department Chief Joseph Pratt, firefighters entered the restaurant, making their way to the back of the building where they smelled what was described as burning plastic and electrical equipment in the ceiling fixtures. Smoke was then discovered in the space between the ceiling and drop-ceiling of the kitchen. Hoses were run inside the building as well as up to the roof where firefighters had peeled back sections of the roof, attacking several “hot spots” from both above and below.

There were no injuries reported at the scene and the area was declared safe at about 9:30 p.m.
