Car Crashes Into Mineola Game Restaurant Monday Morning

No injuries reported as sedan drives into front of Game Master Grill.

A car crashed into the Game Master Grill at the corner of Roslyn Road and Second Street early Monday morning, causing massive damage to the Mineola restaurant.

According to police, the driver of an Infinity sedan lost control of the car at about 7:30 a.m. before ending up in the front portion of the restaurant. There were no charges issued against the driver and police said that no criminality was involved. The driver of the car was not identified. There were no injuries reported.

Restaurant owner David VanderWerf had just opened the combination game store/ restaurant in 2012 and was found sitting outside while repair crews boarded up the front of the store. He added that the Mineola Village Building Department had come by and ordered that no one be allowed to enter the store due to the potential hazards at the location.

VanderWerf stated that he was hopeful that his insurance would cover the damages, but did not know the exact dollar amount or when he would be able to reopen the business. VanderWerf and his brother Duane have another business, the Game Table, which was formally located in Mineola but has since relocated to Hicksville.

He indicated that he intends to rebuild the restaurant, saying "we'll be back," he said when asked if the Game Master Grill would reopen its doors.
