Cops: Jericho Terrace Catering Hall Damaged by Fireworks

A catering hall in Mineola was damaged by commercial fireworks late Thursday, authorities said. 

Nassau County police say an unknown man set off the fireworks from a tube launcher, causing damage to Jericho Terrace Catering Hall, at 249 Jericho Turnpike. The incident occurred at 11:25 p.m. 

Witnesses heard a loud bang, saw smoke and an explosion on the north outside wall of the building, damaging the doorway, police said.

The suspect was seen pointing what appeared to be a pipe in the direction of the damage. The suspect fled the scene on foot, and was last spotted running south on Mineola Boulevard, police said. 

Approximately 100 people were attending a catered event in the building at the time of the explosion, according to police.

No injuries were reported.
