A West Hempstead man who was caught having sex in the Shoreham-Wading River woods with a teenage boy last August was sentenced on Tuesday to five years in prison.

David Boutin was indicted in front of a grand jury last September after a policeman originally searching for a stolen motorbike on a remote utility access road caught Boutin in the car with a 13-year-old boy.

Boutin was sentenced despite attempts by prosecutors to push for 10 years instead of the five granted, according to Newsday. He pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree criminal sexual act, two counts of second-degree sex abuse, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of disseminating sexually explicit material to a minor.

Cops: Bogus MS Scam
A Farmingville man is accused of running a phony door-to-door fundraising scam in the area, Suffolk County Police said.

David Papik, 33, was canvassing homes on Lidge Drive on June 19 asking residents to donate money for a fictitious charity event that would benefit the "Multiple Sclerosis Foundation," police said

A woman who donated $10 to the charity walk researched the event and called police when she discovered the fundraiser didn't exist. Officers conducted an investigation and arrested Papik on Thursday night. Papik is charged with second-degree scheming to defraud.

Police Shoot Armed Man
An Albertson man who allegedly pointed a handgun at a 22-year-old victim on a residential street Wednesday morning was latershot three times by responding Nassau County Police officers.

Brian Reilly, 56, is charged with two counts of menacing a police officer, second-degree menacing and two counts of fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon.

Upon confronting Reilly and ordering him to show his hands, police said Reilly pulled what appeared to be a black handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the officers. Police fired and Reilly was struck three times: One in each leg and the third in his right hand.

Reilly, who was found with what turned out to be a BB gun, was treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Home Depot Bomb Plotter Convicted
A Deer Park man was convicted June 17 of planting a pipe bomb inside the Home Depot on New York Ave. last fall in a failed attempt to extort the national home improvement chain of $2 million, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Federal officials said Daniel Sheehan, 50, sent an anonymous ransom demand letter to the Huntington location, warning the store manager that he had hidden a bomb in the store's lighting department as a demonstration of his ability to place a bomb in the store without detection.

In his letter, Sheehan warned that if Home Depot did not pay a $2 million ransom, he would shut down all of Home Depot’s Long Island stores on Black Friday.

Law enforcement located and later detonated the pipe bomb on Oct. 15, 2012.

Sheehan, who worked at the Deer Park Home Depot, was charged with extortion and using a destructive device in the commission of a felony. He faces a mandatory 30-year minimum prison sentence when he is sentenced on Oct. 3.

Sexual Predator Gets 20 Years
Fidel Castro-Brito, nabbed in the biggest sex abuse investigation ever handled by East Hampton Town police, was sentenced Friday to 20 years to life behind bars.

In May, Castro-Brito pleaded guilty to 76 felonies, covering two indictments, related to child sex abuse.

The cases against Castro-Brito began over a year ago when a father in Springs caught Castro-Brito jumping out of his 12-year-old daughter's bedroom window. He was charged with seven sex crimes, including three charges of first-degree rape.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office recommended the maximum allowable by law — 50 years to life, but Judge Barbara Kahn promised Castro-Brito a sentence of at least 20 years to life with 20 years of post-release supervision as part of his plea deal.
