A look at crimes in the towns surrounding Mineola.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Mineola

An Amyityville man led police on a on June 28 at 11:51 p.m., striking several police vehicles before fleeing on foot on Rudolph Drive and into a nearby apartment complex.

Roslyn Harbor

A fire in an fully-engulfed SUV was reported at 1072 Glen Cove Ave. on June 27 at 9:34 p.m.

Woodbury

A Lindenhurst man was arrested on June 29, 2012 at 9:50 A.M. in Woodbury for robbery. According to detectives, Irving Casillas, 38, and another unknown male white subject drove a 48 year old female victim who was an acquaintance to conduct some banking. After the transaction was completed the defendant and subject returned the victim to her residence on East Nicholai Street. The victim exited the vehicle followed by the defendant. Casillas pushed her to the ground removing her purse, reentered the vehicle and fled the scene. No injuries were reported. The defendant surrendered to detectives and was charged with third degree robbery. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on June 30. 

Carle Place

A car overturned on Westbury Avenue near Glen Cove Road on June 25 at about 5:54 p.m. Police transported one aided person from the scene. 

Franklin Square

A Howard Beach man was arrested in connection with a robbery in Franklin Square that occurred at 10:15am on Jan. 15, 2012. Darren Elliott, 25, of Howard Beach allegedly entered the Stein Family Jewelers located at 784 Hempstead Turnpike with another man and demanded a 59-year old victim get in the back of the store. The victim was able to activate the panic alarm as he complied with the demand and his hands were tied together. A thirty-three year old male witness walked in the store startling the suspects.  Both suspects then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. There were no proceeds and no injuries reported. Elliott was arrested in Brooklyn on June 28, 2012 without incident. He was arraigned on June 29, 2012 at First District Court, Hempstead. 

A hazmat situation was reported at 143 Franklin Ave. on June 27 at 12:08 p.m. Reported readings of 100 parts per million were reported. There were no aided reported.

During a traffic investigation on June 24, officers observed a vehicle traveling northbound on Franklin Avenue, swerving from lane-to-lane at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then veered towards the police cars almost striking one of the officers. The vehicle was stopped and upon their investigation, the driver, a 30-year-old man from Roosevelt, was arrested for aggravated DWI (.18% BAC), reckless driving, failure to move left of emergency vehicles, unsafe lane operation, failure to wear seatbelt, unlicensed operation, unregistered operation and uninspected operation.

Police are investigating an incident at where on June 24 two female subjects stole 14 tank tops valued at $450 from the Kardashian Department of the store.

A home on Glen Road in West Hempstead was burglarized on June 18.

Palin Barbershop on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead was burglarized sometime between June 17 and June 18.

Niko Development Corp on Cherry Valley Avenue in West Hempstead was burglarized between June 23 and June 24.
