Crimes Nearby: Dating Site Scammer, Cocaine and Headless Chickens

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding Mineola.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Williston Park

Nassau County Police arrested a Holbrook man on grand larceny and criminal impersonation charges in Williston Park Thursday with a woman he allegedly met through an online dating site.

New Hyde Park

A Bronx man was arrested Monday on charges relating to an Aug. 9 burglary in New Hyde Park in which he allegedly stole materials and power tools from a construction site.

A bag containing headless chickens was discovered at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church Thursday morning, according to Nassau County Police.

Lake Success

A car accident occurred on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway between exits 32 and 33 on Oct. 14 at 9:40 p.m. Injuries were reported.

Westbury

A Westbury man was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance on Monday, Oct. 14 at 3:35 p.m. in Syosset. According to detectives, officers were conducting an investigation when they observed Bettis Richardson, 51, approach an unoccupied 2013 Dodge parked in a lot at 571 Jericho Turnpike. As the officers approached the defendant he tossed a clear plastic bag containing cocaine on to the floor of the passenger side of the vehicle. The officers were able to recover the narcotics and placed Richardson under arrest without incident. Richardson is charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and was arraigned on Oct. 15 at First District Court in Hempstead. 

A Queens Village was arrested in Westbury on Oct. 15 at 9:20 a.m. According to detectives, on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, Cory Cintron, 23, entered the Chase Bank at 35 Jericho Turnpike in Jericho and posed as an existing bank customer. Using a fraudulent Pennsylvania driver’s license he obtained an ATM card and then withdrew $25,000 from the customers account. Later that same day Cintron went to the Chase branch at 2111 Northern Blvd. in Manhasset and filled out a withdrawal slip in the amount of $9,000. for the same account. The bank teller became suspicious and when she questioned the defendant he left the bank with no funds. After being identified through surveillance video and fingerprint evidence Cintron surrendered to detectives in Westbury. He was charged with two counts of third degree grand larceny and first degree identity theft. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Oct. 16. 

A Queens man was arrested on charges relating to using a forged credit card on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at 7:49 p.m. in Westbury. According to detectives, Scott E. Bellamy, 46, was inside the Wal-Mart located at 1220 Old Country Road when he attempted to purchase a phone card valued at $45 using a forged American Express credit card and Connecticut license before he fled the store on foot leaving behind the items. Bellamy was located a short time later by detectives and placed under arrest without incident. During the investigation Bellamy was also found to be in possession of an additional forged credit card. He is charged with three counts of second degree possession of a forged instrument and was arraigned on Oct. 15 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Hicksville

Nassau Police are seeking the public’s help with identifying two unknown subjects wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred in Hicksville on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at approximately 4:45 p.m.,at Target located at 2003 Broadway Mall in Hicksville. Once inside the store the subjects acting together allegedly stole XBOX 360 accessories valued at approximately $390, and exited the store passing all points of purchase failing to make payment for the items. When confronted by the store loss prevention officer, the male charged him and threatened to use physical force to prevent the retrieval of the items. The subjects fled the scene in a black SUV in an unknown direction. Old Bethpage

A burglary was reported at 303 Winding Road on Oct. 15 at 8:32 a.m.

Franklin Square

A car hit the divider on the westbound side of the Southern State Parkway near exit 15 on Oct. 12 at 1:54 p.m. causing traffic to be constricted down to one lane.

Garden City

On Oct. 15 detectives arrested a 25-year-old man from East Hampton for possession of stolen property. On Oct. 12, a Garden City resident reported his outboard motor stolen from his boat in East Hampton. The alert owner was then able to find a seller for the exact same motor on Craigslist.
