Crimes Nearby: Fatal Apartment Fire, Motorcycle Accident and Man Killed by Tree

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding Mineola.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Mineola

The Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps. was requested to 20 Jerome Ave. on October 28 at 1:31 p.m. for two aided.

A overturned car was reported in the vicinity of Jericho Turnpike and Mineola Boulevard on October 31 at 9:57 a.m. The driver was removed from the vehicle.

Albertson

A fire was reported at 105 Shepherd Lane in a private dwelling on November 1 at 4:04 a.m. Williston Park Ladder Co. and EMS responded to the scene. The fire was controlled at 5:58 a.m.

New Hyde Park

A fatal fire occurred in an apartment above a bar at 1217 Jericho Turnpike on November 1 at approximately 6 a.m.

Roslyn

An accidental homicide occurred in Roslyn on Monday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. According to detectives, Safar Shafinoori, 84, of Roslyn, went outside to move his vehicle and while entering, was struck by a falling tree. Nassau County Police Ambulance transported Shafinoori, who suffered a head injury, to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m.

Manhasset

Searingtown Road was closed in both directions at Northern Boulevard on October 29 at 5:58 p.m. due to a transformer fire and from Northern Boulevard to the Long Island Expressway at 6:16 p.m. due to downed trees.

Old Westbury

A fire occurred at 223 Store Hill Road at Empire State College at Old Westbury on November 1 at 4:02 p.m. The fire was contained at 4;05 p.m.

Hicksville

A fire was reported on the second floor of a two-story structure at 342 West Nicholai St. on October 31 at 9:05 p.m. Two elderly residents were reportedly trapped. The building was evacuated at 9:16 p.m. It was reported that the fire started in a car in an attached garage that spread to the residence and there was heavy fire through the roof.

A fire broke out at the Broadway Mall in the basement of the H&M clothing store on November 1 at 1:28 p.m. A heavy smoke condition was reported in the underground tunnel of the mall.

Garden City

Four men were arrested in East Garden City on Tuesday October 30, 2012 at 12:40 a.m. for allegedly planning a burglary. According to detectives, a Nassau County Third Precinct Police Officer along with a Third Precinct Sergeant conducted a vehicle traffic stop of a 1997 Red Acura driving on Zeckendorf Boulevard. During the investigation, a clear bag of marijuana along with screw drivers, a hammer and flashlight were discovered on the floor of the vehicle. The investigation revealed the defendants were looking to burglarize stores that suffered damage during the storm.

A fatal motorcycle accident occurred on Tuesday, October 30 at 8:25 p.m. in Garden City. According to detectives, a 20 year old male was operating a 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on Washington Avenue with an 18 year old female passenger when he struck a 2003 Econoline van which was traveling eastbound at the intersection of Stewart Avenue. The traffic light at the intersection was out at the time due to a power outage.

An 87-year-old man was rescued from a burning Garden City home by a Garden City father and son Monday night during Hurricane Sandy when a fallen tree had reportedly dislodged a gas main.

I'm sorry Marie but there is no information about when the project will actually start. TheRead More developer had requested an extension from the board at a previous meeting and we do not know of a firm start date. When we do receive one, we will most certainly publish it.
