Garden City Park
The robbery of a BP Gas station in Garden City Park early Tuesday morning may be linked to another robbery in West Hempstead, according to Nassau County Police. The robberies occurred within 30 minutes of each other and were about four miles of distance between the two gas station locations. However, Garden City Park is located within the Third Precinct while West Hempstead resides in the Fourth Precinct.
Police arrested a black male as well as pursued two others on Roslyn Road on March 24 at 4:49 p.m., recovering pellet guns.
A robbery occurred on Saturday, March 23 at 9:50 a.m. when according to detectives, a 23 year old male victim was walking south on Post Avenue when he was approached by an unknown male Hispanic in his thirties that asked him for directions. The victim ignored him and continued walking and turned onto Bedford Avenue. A second male Hispanic described as being in his forties and wearing a scarf around his neck then approached the victim and demanded he hand over all of his personal belongings while displaying a black handgun and shoving it into his side. The second subject then went through the victim’s pockets and pulled out his iPhone 5 and headphones. Both subjects then ran east on Bedford Avenue. The victim then observed the second subject jump into a dark green vehicle that was driving southbound on South Lennox Avenue. The first subject kept running and then made a right onto Post Avenue. Vice squad detectives made four arrests for prostitution that occurred in Westbury and Hicksville on Tuesday, March 26. According to detectives, at 7:30 p.m. Tonya Fleming, 27, of Fall River, MA, while in a motel in Westbury, offered to perform a sexual act on an undercover detective for an agreed upon amount of money. At 8:10 p.m. Terasena Grayson, 26, of San Leandro, CA, and Ain Zawadi Mulindwa, 23, of Oakland, CA, offered to perform a sexual act on an undercover detective for an agreed upon amount of money. At 9:05 p.m. while in a Hicksville motel, Ladonna Phipps, 25, of Lynn, MA, offered to perform a sexual act on an undercover detective for an agreed upon amount of money. All four defendants are each being charged with Prostitution. Phipps is also being charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. The defendants were arraigned on Wednesday, March 27 at First District Court in Hempstead.
A robbery occurred on March 26 at 10:05 pm in Westbury. According to detectives, the Centro America Taxi Company dispatched the 32 year old male victim driver to pick up a fare at 393 Upland St. Waiting at that location were two male black subjects who entered the cab. The subject, who was sitting in the front seat, displayed a silver handgun and demanded money. The victim grabbed the gun and a struggle ensued. After regaining control of the gun, the subject struck the victim in the head with it causing a laceration and bleeding above his right eye. Both subjects then went through the victim’s pockets, removed an undisclosed amount of money, exited the cab and fled southbound on Upland Street on foot. The victim, who was only able to describe the subjects as black males in their mid-20’s, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. A gas line was reported to have been struck at 20 Lydia Lane on March 27 at 10:09 a.m.
The robbery squad is investigating three robberies that occurred on Friday, March 29, 2013 between 3:25 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. in Farmingdale, Hicksville and Levittown. According to detectives, at 3:25 a.m. an unknown black or Hispanic male subject, 25 to 30 years of age, 5’7” tall, slim build, wearing a black hooded jacket entered into the USA Gas Station located at 356 Fulton Ave. in Farmingdale. He demanded money and produced a black hand gun. The subject then fled on foot south on Heisser Lane with an undetermined amount of US currency. At 3:40 a.m., the subject entered the Exxon Gas Station located at 3285 Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown. The subject displayed a black handgun and stole an undetermined amount of US currency, packages of cigars and cigarettes. He then fled on foot in an unknown direction. At 3:45 am, the subject then entered a 7-11 Store located at 413 Jerusalem Ave. in Hicksville. The subject produced a black handgun and demanded cash. He then fled on foot in an unknown direction with an undetermined amount of US currency and cigarettes. No injuries were reported during the robberies. Narcotics/vice bureau detectives arrested two Flushing women for Prostitution on Monday, March 25, at 4:05 p.m. in Hicksville. According to detectives, defendants Feng Li, 45, and Yi Zhou, 45, while working at 55 D Broadway did practice massage therapy without a license on undercover detectives. Both defendants also offered to engage in a sexual act with the detectives for an undisclosed amount of money. Li and Zhou are both charged with Prostitution and Unauthorized Practice of a Crime. They were arraigned on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at First District Court in Hempstead.
State and Nassau County Police engaged in a pursuit along Stewart Avenue and Cherry Avenue on March 24 at about 4:22 p.m.
A fire broke out in the kitchen of a private dwelling at 94-32 241st St. on March 24 at 8:44 p.m. Fire departments from Elmont, New Hyde Park, Garden City Park and Mineola. Heavy flames were reported on the second floor. The fire was contained at about 9:29 p.m.
Detectives arrested a female 26-year-old from Queens Village on March 19 for grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument for an incident that occurred March 13 at Lord & Taylor where she used a forged credit card to purchase a pair of earrings valued at more than $4,500.
On March 20 a resident was apparently a victim of a deception scam where the subjects apparently punctured the tire at the jewelry store and followed the homeowners until they stopp due to the flat tire and as one subject offers to help the victim, the other subject steals items from within the vehicle. A similar incident occurred in Stewart Manor earlier in the day.
Two drivers were injured on March 26 after two SUVs collided on the slippery pavement of Hempstead Avenue near Hempstead Gardens Drive.
Residents of a West Hempstead home were shaken from their sleep early on March 28 after an SUV lost control on Madison Avenue and plowed into a car parked in their driveway. The SUV left the roadway around 12:45 a.m., struck a tree, then smashed into a parked car in the driveway, sending it onto the front porch of the home. The SUV then hit a second tree before coming to a halt.
