Mineola

A 60-year-old Mineola man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, unsafe lane change and speeding on Peninsula Boulevard in Lynbrook on June 29 at 7:07 p.m.

A pair of men robbed the store in New Hyde Park on July 9, making off with an unknown amount of cash. The first subject is described as a male black, mid twenties, 5’7” tall, thin build, wearing a blue baseball cap and white tee-shirt. The second subject is described as a male black, mid-twenties, 5’10” tall, thin build, wearing a black baseball cap, white tee shirt and armed with a semi automatic handgun.

Albertson

Searingtown

Two eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway were closed in the vicinity of Searingtown Road (Exit 36) for about 40 minutes beginning about 9 p.m. on July 7 due to a motor vehicle accident.

Westbury

The Westbury Fire Department responded to a report of an entrapment from a motor vehicle accident on the Southern State Parkway at the Wantagh State Parkway on July 9 at 9:30 a.m. 

Franklin Square

A Franklin Square man was arrested by the narcotics/vice bureau for criminal possession of a forged instrument that occurred in Franklin Square on Tuesday, July 10, at 2:10 p.m. According to detectives, Daniele Ferrante, 40, presented a forged prescription for a controlled substance to a Syosset pharmacy on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011. Ferrante was arrested following an investigation by the Narcotics/Vice Bureau. Ferrante is being charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the second degree and was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on July 11.

Woodbury

A Bronx man was arrested in connection with a robbery that occurred in Woodbury on Tuesday, July 10 at 7:15 p.m. According to detectives, Thomas Cronin, 49, entered the Village Pharmacy located at 38 Cold Spring Road in Syosset on Tuesday, June 12 at 3:45 p.m. and took approximately $140 in cash from a register. He forcibly confronted a witness as he was fleeing from that location. Additionally Cronin smashed the front glass door of Sandy’s Shoe Repair locate at 49 Jackson Ave. in Syosset on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at 1:00 a.m. and removed a cash register from the store. He also smashed the front glass door of the adjacent business, Fred’s Barbershop located at 51 Jackson Ave. in Syosset, on the same approximate date and time. He was subsequently arrested after an investigation by detectives. Cronin is being charged with third degree robbery and two counts of third degree burglary. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday, July 11.

Westbury

Police have arrested a Westbury man in connection with a scheme to steal credit card numbers. Following the arrest of Baldwin resident Gabriella Melendez, 24, police apprehended Alec Smith, 20, and charged him with third degree grand larceny, two counts of second degree possession of a forged instrument and two counts of Identity Theft in the first and second degrees. According to police, Melendez and Smith acted together while Melendez was a waitress at Houlihans Restaurant located at 725 Merrick Ave. to skim credit card numbers from the credit cards that customers used to pay their checks on May 14 at 8 p.m. Police say the suspects then made purchases at various stores throughout Nassau County in excess of $3,100. He was arraigned on July 13 in First District Court in Hempstead. Melendez is being charged with third degree grand larceny, two counts of second degree possession of a forged instrument and two counts of identity theft in the first and second degrees. She was arraigned on May 31 in First District Court in Hempstead. 

The Village of Garden City is seeing a – eight more when compared at the same time last year. The Garden City Police Department urges all residents to be aware of suspicious activity around them and to call them promptly when suspicious behavior is seen.

Police were investigating a grand larceny at where a male subject had taken more than $1,300 in over-the-counter medicines and personal products when he heard over his police scanner that a similar theft in Franklin Square had just occurred where the subject was apprehended. He then transported a witness to the Franklin Square location where the subject was identified as the same subject in the Garden City larceny. The subject, a male 41-year-old, was placed under arrest for both the Garden City and Franklin Square larcenies.

A vehicle traveling east on Stewart Avenue in the vicinity of Hampton Road was observed by an officer on July 7 drifting from lane to lane. He stopped the vehicle and upon his investigation, the driver, a female 34-year-old from Mineola, was arrested and charged DWI (.09 percent blood alcohol content), unsafe lane usage and unlicensed operation.
