Crimes Nearby: Lawyer Admits to Stealing $10K

Crimes and arrests making headlines this week.

Nathan Levner, 54, was arrested in May by DA Investigators and charged with third-degree grand larceny, a D felony. He pleaded guilty to the charge Wednesday after reimbursing the Lawyers Fund for Client Protection of New York State in July for the full restitution that was paid to his victims. Levner, who was disbarred in December 2012, is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 15, 2014. Click here to read the full story.

Mother Searches for Missing Son

An Inwood woman is asking the public's help in finding her son, who is emotionally disabled and has been missing since Oct. 30.

Neil Harris is 29 years old, 6 foot 1 inches, about 180 pounds, with light brown skin and black hair. His mother, Susan Hulburt, said he had a shaved head the last time she saw him, which was at her old residence at 77 Lord Ave. He was also seen at the Stop & Shop on Burnside Avenue. Long Beach Police: Shooting Investigation is Ongoing

The Long Beach Police Department continues to investigate a shooting early this month that left one man wounded but no one has yet been arrested in the case.

Lt. Eric Cregeen, an LBPD spokesman, declined to reveal any further details about the case, saying the investigation remains open.  

“Still under investigation,” Cregeen told Patch when asked for an update on the case in which police said they had a “person of interest” in custody. Click here to read the full story.

Man Injured After Shooting in Inwood

A 28-year-old man was shot Wednesday and sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police Seek Suspect in JC Penney Theft

Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Department are seeking the public’s help in identifying a woman responsible for a petty larceny.

Police said that the pictured subject was observed inside JC Penney, located at 1051 Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at approximately 9:20 p.m. Click here to read the full story.

Police Seek Woman Who Cashed Bad Check in Baldwin

On July 16, 2012, at about 9:34 p.m., the pictured subject was seen inside of Sunrise Check Cashing Service, located at 500 Sunrise Highway, where she cashed the fraudulent check in the amount of $470, according to police. Cops said she knew there were insufficient funds available to cover it. The subject fled the scene in an unknown direction. Click here to read the full story.

Cops Seek Woman Who Stole $210 Worth of Sneakers

Police are seeking the public's help in identifying a woman who shoplifted $210 worth of sneakers from JC Penney in Green Acres Mall.

On May 15 at about 9:20 p.m., the pictured subject was seen inside JC Penney, where police said she took multiple pairs of sneakers, valued at $210.00, and exited the store without paying. The subject then fled the scene in an unknown direction. Click here to read the full story.
