Mineola

A Mineola resident was killed after being hit by a Long Island Rail Road train near the Mineola train station on January 21.

A cement truck driver from Mineola was arrested on January 23 and is being charged in connection with the 2012 death of a school bus driver in Locust Valley.

A Capitol One bank at 422 Hillside Ave. was robbed on January 25 at about 5:41 p.m. Police are investigating the incident.

Garden City Park

A New York State Police car was incolved in a two-car accident in Garden City Park Friday at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Nassau Boulevard.

Roslyn Heights

A fire broke out on the first floor of a private dwelling at 75 Rushmore Ave. on January 21 at 5:57 p.m. The fire broke through the roof of the home at about 6:05 p.m.

A gas line was struck at 400 Locust Lane by contractors on January 24 at 3:48 p.m. National Grid was requested to the scene.

Old Westbury

A fire broke out in a large brush pile in close proximity to a home at 17 Langley Lane on January 21 at 4:42 p.m.

Westbury

A hit and run accident occurred on the eastbound side of the Northern State Parkway near exit 34 on January 19 at 9:29 p.m. Police arrived on the scene and reported minor injuries. The perpetrator reportedly fled southbound on the Wantagh Parkway.

A bank at 600 Old Country Road was robbed on January 22 at 3:12 p.m. Police are searching for a male suspect wearing a grey shirt and cap who fled with unknown amount of cash.

A TD Bank at 999 Old Country Road was robbed on January 24 at 1:55 p.m. According to detectives, an unknown female black subject entered the TD Bank and made a verbal demand to a teller for money. After obtaining an undetermined amount of U.S. currency the subject fled on foot westbound through the parking lot. She is further described as being in her 40’s, 5’5” tall, wearing a puffy three quarter length jacket, beige scarf and navy blue sweatpants. No injuries were reported. There were seven employees and two customers present at the time of the robbery. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Two Queens women were arrested on January 24 at 3:20 p.m. on unauthorized practice charges. According to detectives, an undercover operation determined that Su Zhen Xu, 34, and Dan Zhang, 40, while working inside 869 Old Country Road did practice massage therapy without a license. In addition, Zhang offered to engage in a sexual act for an undisclosed amount of money. Both women were taken into custody without incident. Both defendants are charged with unauthorized practice and Zhang is also charged with prostitution. They were arraigned on January 25 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Carle Place

A person was found dead in a Holiday Inn of an apparent suicide that occurred on Thursday, January 24 at 2:55 p.m. According to detectives, police responded to the Holiday Inn at 369 Old Country Road for a possible suicide. Upon arrival they were informed by an employee of the hotel that an odor was emanating from a room on the second floor. The police immediately evacuated the building of all employees and guests. The Nassau County Police Emergency Service Unit, Emergency Ambulance Bureau, Carle Place Fire Department and Fire Marshalls responded to the hotel. The Emergency Service Unit Hazmat team entered the room and discovered an Elmont man, 21 years of age, unconscious. He was pronounced deceased at 8:48 p.m. by Nassau County Advanced Medical Technician at the scene. Six employees were evaluated, but refused medical treatment at the scene. The chemicals were rendered safe by hazmat and removed by the Fire Marshalls office. The room and hotel were deemed safe and re-opened at 9:30 p.m. allowing guests and employees back inside.

Hicksville

A car crashed into a building at a 7-Eleven store at Jerusalem Avenue and Winding Road on January 21 at 4:51 p.m.

A car accident occurred at Jerusalem Avenue and Harnat Court on January 21 at 5:28 p.m. Emergency services were requested to the scene for one person aided.

A gas leak was reported at 146 Division Ave. with a hazmat team requested for an odor of gas inside the house as a result of a break at the meter.

An East Meadow resident was arrested for assault on January 21 at 5:35 p.m. in Hicksville for an October assault that left a 36-year-old Hicksville restaurant employee blind in one eye.

Franklin Square

A Franklin Square man was arrested for a robbery that occurred on January 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Franklin Square. According to police, the male victim, 63 years of age, started his 2010 Honda CRV which was parked in his driveway on Adams Avenue and then re-entered his residence. While inside his home he observed his vehicle backing out of the driveway. The victim ran to the car and opened the driver’s door where he discovered the defendant, John Brito, 42, in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The victim struggled with the defendant to gain control of the vehicle as it traveled westbound on Adams Avenue. The vehicle came to a stop approximately 50 feet down the road. A 47-year old male passerby came to the assistance of the victim and removed Brito from the vehicle. They restrained him until police arrived. Fourth Precinct officers placed the defendant under arrest. During the investigation they discovered a bottle of wine in the vehicle that did not belong to the victim. The officers transported Brito to Central Testing for arrest processing. There were no injuries reported. Brito is charged with second degree robbery, driving while ability impaired, driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired-combined influence, two counts of first degree aggravated unlicensed and two counts of third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. He was arraigned on January 25 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Garden City

A joint investigation by the Garden City and Nassau County Police Departments resulted in the arrest of a female 21-year-old from the Bronx and a female 23-year-old from Queens, for the operation of an illegal massage parlor in an office building on Franklin Avenue on January 17.

A Garden City woman was arrested at her Pine Street home on January 20 after attempting to kill her husband during a domestic incident, according to Nassau County Third Squad detectives.

Garden City detectives arrested a female 23-year-old from Baldwin on January 23 for grand larceny and identity theft after she bought more than $3,000 in merchandise, including two televisions and three gift cards, at Sears using the account of another person without authorization. The subject was also charged with a violation of probation warrant.

West Hempstead

The total number of West Hempstead spa workers arrested this month jumped to eight Wednesday as police charged two more women with practicing unlicensed massage and prostitution.

Two people were injured early Friday morning in a two-car collision at the intersection of Sycamore Street and Fairlawn Avenue in West Hempstead.
