Crimes Nearby: Marijuana Bust, Foot Pursuit and Illegal Massage

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding Mineola.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Mineola

A foot pursuit was reported on April 11 at 3:20 a.m. on Willis Avenue and Elderberry Road. A Nassau County Police Officer was in pursuit of a male perp who reportedly ran into an apartment building at 343 Willis Ave.

Albertson

A gas leak was reported on 11 Dogwood Road from the main line on April 11 at about 12:36 p.m.

New Hyde Park

A pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Lakeville Road and Patton Boulevard on April 9 at about 1:43 p.m. Minor injuries were reported.

Two cars were involved in a motor vehicle accident at Lakeville Road and Windsor Gate on April 9 at about 1:57 p.m. The exact nature of injuries at the scene were not reported. 

Westbury

A brush fire was reported on the SUNY campus at 11:07 a.m. on April 13. A helicopter and additional engines were requested to the scene. The fire was reported extinguished at 1:01 p.m.

Carle Place

An overturned auto was reported on April 11 at 11:09 a.m. on the Northern State Parkway westbound between exits 30 and 31. State police arrived on the scene and fire department was requested.

 A joint investigation by the Adelphi Public Safety and the Garden City Police Departments led to the arrest of two Garden City males, both 22 years old, for the possession of marijuana in a parking field on the Adelphi University Campus on April 6.

Also on April 6, as a result of an investigation of a cashing of an $845 forged check at the Garden City M&T Bank branch that occurred on March 24, Garden City detectives arrested a 33-year-old male from New York City for possession of a forged instrument. The subject was also charged a second count of possession of a forged instrument after the investigation revealed that he also cashed a forged check at the Oceanside M&T Branch on the same day.

An armed robbery at The Source Mall occurred on April 9 at about 12:04 p.m. Reportedly two black men robbed a person at gunpoint making off with three handbags. Nassau County Police from the Third Precinct apprehended one suspect and were still searching for the second.

Multiple injuries were sustained in a motor vehicle accident on Hempstead Turnpike and Nassau Boulevard at 1:28 p.m. on April 13. A total of eight departments with ambulances were requested. 

In response to community complaints, the Problems Oriented Policing/PEP Office conducted a joint investigation with the Narcotics/Vice Squad at two West Hempstead businesses, Acupuncture Oriental Body Work and Relaxation Day Spa, both located on Hempstead Turnpike. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Jiejing Zhao and Jianxin You, both Flushing residents, for unlicensed massage. A total of 10 summonses were also issued by the Town of Hempstead Building Department.
