Crimes Nearby: Marijuana Bust, Selling Alcohol to Minor and Fatal Accident

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding Mineola.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

A car drove into a body of water near the eastbound portion of the Northern State Parkway and Shelter Rock Road on January 21 at about 11:55 a.m.

A Floral Park man was killed Tuesday when his car crashed into a building on Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  There were no other injuries reported and the investigation is ongoing.

Westbury

The Westbury Fire District aided in an extraction at a motor vehicle accident at Old Country Road and Merchant’s Concourse on Jan. 16 at about 10:47 a.m.

A shooting occurred on Union Avenue on January 22 at about 10:50 p.m. One victim was transported to Nassau University Medical Center by a private car. It is unknown where the shooting occurred.

On January 20, Garden City detectives arrested a 20-year-old Westbury man for a 2009 burglary on Russell Road. The arrest was based on evidence gathered during the lengthy investigation, which included matches on DNA initially collected at the scene of the crime.

As a result of an investigation conducted in the vicinity of Franklin Avenue, Garden City detectives arrested a male 16-year-old from Garden City for two counts of selling marijuana on January 21.

An officer observed the selling of alcohol to an underage agent working for the police at BRC Market on Meacham Avenue in Elmont on January 18. Police say Kyung Jong Park, of Port Washington, was arrested after he did not ask for any form of identification showing proof of age. 

Thomas Lee, of Elmont, was arrested on January 18 for allegedly selling alcohol to an underage agent working for the police. Officers say Lee, who was working at 7 to 8 Deli and Grocery on Gotham Avenue in Elmont, did not ask for any form of identification showing proof of age.
