New Hyde Park

A Nassau County Police Officer was shot responding to a burglary in New Hyde Park early Wednesday morning. A pair of Brooklyn men were arrested and charged in the incident.

A car accident with injuries reported occurred in the westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway at Glen Cove Road on August 14 at 11:02 a.m.

A car overturned on Jericho Turnpike and Powells Lane on August 15 at 3:04 am. There was no pin reported.

A Westbury man was arrested for a burglary that occurred on Friday, August 16 at 12:56 a.m. in Westbury. According to detectives, a female victim, 34 years of age, heard a noise in her Foster Lane home. The victim went down stairs where she discovered the defendant Matthew Levine, 22, in her kitchen. The victim ran out the front door to a neighbor’s house to call the police. Levine proceeded upstairs to a bedroom where he began to strike an 8 years old female with a mop while she slept. While in the house he also removed the victim’s cell phone. Third Precinct Police Officers responded to the residence and arrested Levine in the home. The child suffered a minor head injury, but refused medical attention at the scene. Levine is charged with first degree burglary, second degree assault, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned on August 16 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Old Westbury

A car crash with injuries in the westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway east of Glen Cove Road was reported on August 14 at 8:37 a.m.

A truck overturned on August 14 at 11:29 a.m. on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway near exit 39, closing all lanes except the HOV lane. The lanes were reopened at 1:58 p.m.

Jericho

A car accident occurred on the westbound side of the Northern State Parkway at exit 35 – Route 106/107 – on August 14 at 2:59 p.m. Two persons were reportedly aided.

Hicksville

A robbery occurred on Tuesday, August 13 at 4 a.m. in Hicksville. According to detectives, a male victim, 36, was making a delivery in the rear of 160 W. Old Country Road when he noticed a male black subject in the cab of his truck. When the victim approached the truck, the subject pointed a black revolver hand gun at the victim and told him to back away. The subject fled the scene on a dark colored mountain bicycle eastbound on Old Country Road with the victim’s iPhone and wallet containing personal papers and credit cards. There were no injuries reported. The subject is further described as 25-30 years of age, 6’0” tall, thin build, short black hair, mustache, wearing blue jeans, sweatshirt and sneakers. Floral Park

The Fourth Squad is investigating a robbery that occurred in South Floral Park on Friday, August 9 at 8:10 p.m. According to detectives, a 20-year old male victim was walking on Louis Avenue when five to six male black subjects in a dark colored auto stopped behind him. Two subjects then exited the vehicle and pushed the victim to the ground and punched him on the left side of his head while demanding hi cell phone. One suspect was wearing a Doo Rag type cap another was holding a black knife. Both subjects then fled on foot with the cell phone. The victim was transported to a local hospital by a Nassau County Ambulance and was treated for lacerations to his lower back. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

On August 12 a person, possibly military, was aided on Carnation Avenue and Raff Avenue at about 11:12 p.m. The exact circumstances were unknown.

A car accident occurred on August 14 at about 9:27 p.m. on Tulip Avenue and Plainfield Avenue when an 18-wheel tanker collided with a car. No damage to the tanker was reported. There were no injuries reported.

Garden City

On August 11 at approximately 8 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a vehicle traveling north on Franklin Avenue make a left turn onto Stewart Avenue in violation of no left turn signs. The officer then observed the vehicle veering left over the center divider lines while traveling west on Stewart Avenue. Upon stopping the vehicle, Officer Baker determined the driver, a male 48-year-old from Hempstead, was intoxicated (.19 percent blood alcohol content). The officer also observed that there were four other occupants in the vehicle, including two children, ages 2 and 4. The subject was placed under arrest for two counts of aggravated DWI (Leandra’s Law), two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two traffic violations and uninsured operation.

West Hempstead

Between 12 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on July 23, an unknown person(s) took cash and a watch from complainant's 2007 Toyota while it was parked on Linden Street in West Hempstead.
