Crimes Nearby: Prostitution, Heroin and Unlicensed Massage

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding Mineola.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Mineola

Two women from Flushing, Queens have been arrested in Mineola for allegedly practicing unlicensed massages on March 14.

Garden City Park

The Mineola Fire Department responded to a car accident Thursday night when a sedan and a SUV collided on Herricks Road near Bellwood Drive and Helen Road at about 7:48 p.m.

Roslyn

A car overturned on the eastbound side of the Northern State Parkway in the area of IU Willet Road on March 14 at 10:06 p.m. Injuries were reported.

Old Westbury

A car accident occurred on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway between exits 39 and 40 causing the right lane to become blocked on March 13 at 7:10 a.m.

Carle Place

Nassau County narcotics/vice squad detectives report the arrests of two California women for prostitution that occurred in Carle Place on March 10 at 11:45 p.m. According to detectives, Sara Hanlin Quijadade, 42, of Friant, and Kimberly Ascencio, 41, of Los Angeles, while in a local hotel offered to engage in sexual relations with an undercover detective for an agreed upon amount of money. Quijadade and Ascencio are each being charged with prostitution and were arraigned on March 11 in First District Court in Hempstead.

Westbury

A 70-year old male was reported missing at the Mall at the Source at 1504 Old Country Road on March 9 at 8:59 p.m. A K9 unit was requested for the missing person.

Two people were arrested on Tuesday, March 12 at 11:35 p.m. on prostitution charges. According to detectives, defendants Kendrick A. Whitemcneal, 21, of Cambria Heights and Diani Monday, 18 of Queens Village were both arrested at a local hotel in Westbury. Whitemcneal made arrangements and supplied a room for the defendant Monday who offered to engage in sexual relations with an undercover detective for an agreed amount of money. Both subjects were placed under arrest without incident. Monday was also found to be in possession of marihuana at the time of her arrest. Whitemcneal is charged with third degree promoting prostitution and Monday is charged with prostitution and unlawful possession of marihuana. Both defendants were arraigned on March 13 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Department are seeking the public’s help in identifying a subject in connection with a forgery which occurred between Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at 1 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 at approximately 11 a.m. in which the victim’s business checks were fraudulently cashed. The unknown subject was observed inside two different Chase bank locations within Queens, NY, cashing checks in the amountof $8,000. Bethpage

A fully-involved car fire was reported at 359 Broadway on March 14 at 7:57 p.m. causing delays in the area. 

Woodbury

An electrical fire was reported at 8285 Jericho Turnpike with minor damage from a pressure washer on March 11 at 2:57 p.m.

Floral Park

A fire was reported on the first and second floors of a private dwelling at 222 Lowell Ave. on March 6 at 9:39 p.m. The Elmont fire department was requested to the scene. An ambulance was requested for treatment of a victim. The fire was placed under control at 10:12 p.m.

Franklin Square

A fire was reported in a two-story structure at 644 Pauley Drive on March 13 at 7:20 a.m.

Garden City

On March 5 an elderly lost female from Mineola was found on Garfield Street and reunited with her family.

A joint investigation between Garden City detectives and Nassau County detectives led to the arrest of a male 28-year-old from Bellport for criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance (heroin) on March 12.

West Hempstead

Six women were arrested for prostitution that occurred on Wednesday and early Thursday throughout Nassau. Two incidents occurred in Lynbrook and West Hemsptead.

At least two people were injured following a two-vehicle collision in West Hempstead on March 11. The incident occurred at the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Walnut Street.
