Crimes Nearby: Road Rage Arrest, Robberies at Gunpoint and Home Invasions

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding Mineola.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

An Elmont man was arrested on charges of assault and drug possession after a pursuit Monday night. Third Precinct detectives reported that they found numerous small wax bags of heroin on him.

A man was robbed at gunpoint early in the morning on December 26 in Roslyn Heights. According to Nassau County detectives, the victim, who is 20, was walking from his vehicle on Edwards Street when he was approached by two men, each wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. The subjects, one holding a silver hand gun, demanded the victim’s wallet and cell phone. Detectives ask anyone with information to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.

Westbury

A fire broke out at commercial building at 51 Frost St. in a storage room at 6:58 p.m. on December 28. The blaze was placed under control at 7:41 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Garden City detectives arrested a male 35-year-old from Elmont after conducting an investigation of a criminal mischief based on a road rage incident that occurred on December 23 on Nassau Boulevard. The Elmont male allegedly cut off the other driver, got out of his vehicle and then proceeded to strike the passenger side of the other vehicle with a baseball bat causing substantial damage. He then got back in his vehicle and drove away.

Malverne-West Hempstead

Two black male subjects . According to police, the 26-year-old victims were in the parking lot of 329 Hempstead Turnpike around 11 p.m. when they were approached by the robbers, who displayed handguns. The robbers took cellphones, keys, wallets and gold chains from the victims. The suspects then fled westbound on Hempstead Turnpike in a silver sedan, possibly a Toyota.

A Malverne while the owner was still home by a pair that used a diversion scheme. Two subjects, a man and woman, came to the front door of a home and while the owner was distracted at the back of the house, the other subject reportedly entered through the front door and stole items from the home. occurred three days later in West Hempstead. No arrests have been made.
