A look at crimes in the towns surrounding Mineola.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Williston Park

A Williston Park woman was arrested for allegedly breaking into a suite on Hillside Avenue at 3:50 a.m. Friday morning.

Garden City Park

A suspicious package was reported at the firehouse at 1030 Denton Ave. on January 17 at 3:08 p.m. Police were requested to the scene.

Nassau County Police are searching for a suspect who attempted to rob the Gulf Gas Station in Garden City Park early Thursday morning.

New Hyde Park

A fire broke out at 11 Sperry Court on January 13 in the early morning and again at 1:26 p.m. and was contained at about 1:46 p.m.

A hazmat situation occurred at 54 Crest Road on January 18 at 6:47 p.m. when a tree that fell on a shed/garage containing oil, pesticides and other unknown chemicals which had been spilled into the street.

Roslyn Heights

A motorcycle accident occurred on the Long Island Expressway at exit 38 on January 12 at 7:39 p.m. Police responded to the scene to aid the motorcyclist with injuries.

An attempted robbery occurred on January 16 at 4:35 p.m. when according to detectives, a male black subject approximately 20 years of age, 5’7”, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, light blue pants and construction boots, entered the TD Bank located at 111 Mineola Ave. and presented a robbery demand note to a teller. After several seconds the subject took back the note and fled the scene on foot northbound Mineola Avenue. There were no proceeds or injuries reported.  Five employees and one customer were inside the bank at the time of the robbery. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.

Old Westbury

A car accident involving two vehicles occurred on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway at Glen Cove Road on January 16 at 5:57 a.m. closing all lanes except the HOV and left lanes.

Westbury

A Westbury man was arrested on January 14 at 10:30 p.m. on alleged sexual-related charges. According to detectives, on January 4, at 10 p.m. Robert E. Wilson II did engage in a Facebook and cell phone text conversation with a 16 year old male victim. The defendant did try to induce the victim to engage in a sexual act for his benefit. The victim’s family became aware of the situation and notified the Nassau County Police. A subsequent investigation led the detectives to Wilson and placed him under arrest at his residence without incident. Robert E. Wilson is charged with first degree disseminating indecent material to a minor, second degree aggravated harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned on January 15 at First District Court in Hempstead.

A robbery was reported on January 15 at 8:45 p.m. in Westbury. According to detectives, two male victims, ages 19 and 22, were working at Radio Shack, located at 541 Old Country Road when two male black suspects entered the store, displayed handguns and forced them to lay face down on the floor in the office. One suspect is described as 5’ 9” tall, 180 pounds wearing a plaid jacket, dark pants and a hat. The other is 6’ tall, 250 pounds wearing a heavy winter jacket and a backpack. The suspects removed and unknown amount of smart phones, tablets and cash before fleeing on foot out the back door onto Ellison Avenue. There were no customers in the store at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported. Detectives ask anyone with information about the above listed crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

A motor vehicle accident with injuries occurred on the eastbound side of the Northern State Parkway at Wantagh Parkway on January 14 at 9:54 a.m. Some lanes were closed following the accident.

Hicksville

A motor vehicle accident occurred on Woodbury Road and Park Avenue on January 14 at 7:32 a.m. involving two vans. A total of five persons were aided by emergency personnel.

Police conducted a search for a robbery suspect in the area of the Broadway Mall on January 14 at 7:36 p.m.

Franklin Square

A dryer caught fire at 35 Franklin Ave. on January 17 at 6:51 a.m. in the laundry room of The Garden Care Center. Companies from Malverne and West Hempstead responded to the scene.

A robbery occurred on January 18 at 12:20 a.m. According to detectives, a 34 year old male victim walked out of the Synergy gym located at 996 Hempstead Turnpike when he was approached by an unknown black male. He is described as having short hair, and wearing dark clothing and a black mask that covered his nose and mouth. The subject displayed a black handgun and demanded money from the victim or he would shoot him. After the subject realized the victim had no money he put the handgun back into his waistband and walked away. There were no injuries reported. Detectives request that anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

East Garden City

A small fire occurred in the elevator shaft at Macy’s at the Roosevelt Field Mall on January 16 and was placed under control at 7:21 p.m.

Garden City

Two women were arrested in Garden City Wednesday night after a joint investigation revealed they were allegedly practicing massage therapy without a license.

The investigation of a leaving-the-scene of an auto accident on Franklin Avenue resulted in the arrest of a male 26-year-old from Mineola on January 12 as he was walking near his residence and the location of his vehicle which was located on Bayberry Ave.

West Hempstead

An alleged drunk driver was arrested Wednesday morning by Nassau County Police after she crashed her car into a Town of Hempstead recycling truck in West Hempstead.

Another pair of women were arrested in West Hempstead Tuesday for practicing unlicensed massage therapy and offering to perform sex acts in exchange for money.
