A fire broke out on Jackson Avenue early Tuesday morning in Mineola, leaving one dead.
According to firefighters on scene, the blaze broke out in the rear of the building around 12:12 a.m. blasting out the windows of 167 Jackson Ave. Several fire departments responded to the call, including companies from Williston Park, Albertson, Garden City Park and Garden City in addition to . A total of 10 trucks and 85 personnel were on the scene.
The fire was put under control around 1:30 a.m., but not without cost. Firefighters entered the home and reportedly found a 71 year old woman on the first floor in the rear of the building laying in the hallway near the rear bedroom. Ambulances were seen racing from the scene but a fatality was confirmed at 1:22 a.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
