Opening arguments in the trial of a man accused of leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of beloved Grimaldi's Pizza manager Dean LaLima are expected to begin Monday, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office.

Raymond Kalenka, of Williston Park, was arrested Aug. 14, 2012. He's been out of jail since his arrest after posting $25,000 bail, the DA's office confirmed.

Police said on Aug. 12, 2012 at approximately 4:10 a.m. that LaLima was found lying in the street at the intersection of Syracuse Street and Broad Street in Williston Park after being struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Broad Street. LaLima, 41, was later pronounced deceased by a Nassau County Ambulance Advanced Medical Technician.

Kalenka was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death.

The Garden City community was shocked and saddened by Mr. LaLima's death. He was best friends with Grimaldi's owner Russell Ciolli, who died suddenly in November 2011 at the age of 39.
