LIRR Service Restored Friday After Person Struck in New Hyde Park

Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma lines temporarily suspended for police investigation.

Long Island Rail Road service was suspended Friday morning and early afternoon on three lines after a person was struck on the tracks near the New Hyde Park LIRR station, the MTA said.

LIRR service has been suspended between Jamaica and Hicksville.

As a result, all LIRR service on Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma lines was temporarily suspended. Customers on these branches are advised to take alternate LIRR service on the Babylon/Montauk Branches.

The LIRR is establishing alternate service to and from the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches with a shuttle train that will operate between Hicksville and Babylon, with train transfers  at Hicksville to the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches.

The 10:04 a.m. train from Huntington to Penn Station was being held at Mineola before returning to Hicksville for customers to transfer to the Hickville-Babylon shuttle for service west.

The medical examiner pronounced the male victim dead at the scene. The circumstances of the death are being investigated.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Update: 1 p.m.: service between Jamaica and Hicksville has been restored.

Update: 1:20 p.m.: the MTA has confirmed that the victim was a male. Medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
