New Hyde Park Man Charged with Mineola Burglary

A man broke into an apartment through an unlocked window, police said.

A New Hyde Park man was arrested for a burglary that occurred on Saturday, April 19 at 9:30 a.m. in Mineola, Nassau police said.

According to detectives, Charles M. Schulz, 23, of 147 N. 6th Street was walking on Willis Avenue when he smashed the front window of The Lucky Mini Mart at 209 Willis Avenue with an unknown object.  

Schulz fled on foot in unknown direction, according to police. A short time later he entered an apartment on 1st Street through an unlocked window. The male resident, 39 years of age, was awoken by a noise and confronted Schulz. After a brief struggle Schulz fled again without any proceeds. The victim suffered minor injuries, police said.

Third Precinct officers responded to the scene and located Schulz a short time later on Garfield Avenue. He was placed under arrest without incident.

Schulz is charged with first-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief.

He is scheduled for arraignment on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
