Reported Truck Crash Closes Herricks Road, Knocks Out Power

Power reportedly restored to Mineola residents at about 9 a.m.

Mineola drivers are advised to avoid the area around the Herricks Road trestle due to LIPA crews working to restore downed power lines.

According to workers on the scene, a  in front of the  “early (Tuesday) morning.”

Crews responded to the scene and the roadway from First Street to Rockaway Avenue was cordoned off by police from both Nassau County and Garden City.

Traffic was seen backed up along First Street headed towards Mineola Boulevard and along Old Country Road attempting to make the turn north onto Franklin Avenue/ Mineola Boulevard to enter the village.

The LIPA outage website reported that there were less than five customers in Mineola without power this morning with some informing the Mineola Patch that power was restored to their homes shortly after 9 a.m.

It is not known how long the roadway will be closed.

Calls to LIPA were not immediately returned.

Update, 4 p.m.: the road has been reopened to traffic.
