Study Sheds Light On ‘Deadly’ Nassau Roadways

Fatalities on Jericho Turnpike highlighted alongside Hempstead Turnpike.

new study from the Tri-State Transportation Campaign has named 16 miles of Hempstead Turnpike that runs through Nassau County as the most dangerous road in the tri-state region for pedestrians.

However, in addition to Route 24, the study also notes some of the fatal accidents which have occurred along Jericho Turnpike and Hillside Avenue as well as on Willis Avenue and I U Willets Road in Albertson.

While a  found that readers felt the most dangerous intersection in Mineola was at Jericho Turnpike and Herricks Road, the survey notes three in New Hyde Park as well as the Albertson fatality.

The fatalities were all senior citizens over the age of 60, all occurring between 2008 and 2010. The Albertson fatality involved the death of a 94-year-old man in 2008.

The State Department of Transportation is said to be close to starting their reconstruction of Jericho Turnpike shortly with .
