SUV Crashes on Jericho Turnpike Friday Afternoon

Mineola Fire Department responds to scene as female driver taken to Winthrop for observation.

Members of the Mineola Fire Department responded to a car accident involving an SUV Friday afternoon near the entrance to Jericho Terrace at about 12:31 p.m.

According to Mineola Fire Chief Joseph Pratt, the female driver of the SUV was traveling east on Jericho Turnpike when she hit a fire hydrant, telephone pole and street sign before bouncing off the light stanchion by the entrance into the 7-Eleven parking lot, coming to a rest in the east bound lanes of Jericho Turnpike during the height of the noon rush hour.

The driver taken to Winthrop University Hospital by members of the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps. for observation.
