Willis Avenue Apartment Roof Partially Collapses Monday

Heavy snow broke through plaster ceiling at 203 Willis Ave. in Mineola.

The roof of a three-story apartment building partially collapsed Monday evening in Mineola.

Snow weighed heavy on the apartment building at 203 Willis Ave., causing a partial collapse of the plaster roof in the third-floor northeast corner apartment, letting snow fall into the bedroom at about 5:08 p.m.

Members of the Mineola Fire Department and heavy rescue responded to the scene as well as the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

The male occupant of the apartment complained of an injury to the neck, but no other injuries were reported.

Members of the Mineola Building Department were conducting an inspection of the roof. Some residents of the lower floors were being let back inside the building.

According to Mineola Fire Chief Joseph Pratt, the department was still investigating two “foul” leaks which were allowing water and snow into the apartment.

I'm sorry Marie but there is no information about when the project will actually start. TheRead More developer had requested an extension from the board at a previous meeting and we do not know of a firm start date. When we do receive one, we will most certainly publish it.
