Stinking politicians can pass laws against sugar, car lanes, smoking, even having sex. But they won't pass a law to make murder while drunk the same as murder. It's the same dead body. But I guess these lying drunken pols don't want any laws that will impact them unduly.

Geoffrey: Thanks for the update. Please continue to follow this story as I have a feeling Newsday wil not. There presently is a little memorial honoring Dean LaLima on the corner of Syracuse and Broad St's. As Kalenka lives right around the corner from this site I only hope that he sees it everytime he passes by.

I feel badly for this guy Kalenka I strongly suspect this is not what he wanted this had been an accident.
Vincent September 1, 2012 at 04:27 pm
Diane Pape: Another liberal heard from. Why did he leave the poor man lying in the middle of the street you imbecile? And if you go down to the accident site you will see the police crime scene markings. In the middle of the street! Have you no scruples?

Geoffrey: Would you please let me know what the disposition of this case was? As I predicted the Newsday did not follow up. Thanks.
Geoffrey Walter (Editor) October 19, 2012 at 06:28 pm
There has been a delay in the case. We expect to follow up in about a week.

Geoffrey Walter: I realize that with the hurricane and all the other very pressing matters the Patch was compelled to cover over the last five week it was easy for the disposition of this case to slip through the cracks. Has there been any resolution to this case? Thanks.
Geoffrey Walter (Editor) November 26, 2012 at 04:38 pm
Vincent: There is no new update to the case and were told a delay still exists. We are following the case and will provide updates when we have them.

I fear that this is the way this story is going to end. When you hit a person and kill him/her it seems the best thing to do is run.

Geoffrey Walter: Thanks for the update. I can only imagine what Mr. LaLima's family, friends and acquaintences think about all these "conferences".
Geoffrey Walter (Editor) April 26, 2013 at 05:42 pm
Another conference was held on April 24. Kalenka is due back in court on Tuesday, April 30 for pre-trial hearings.

Vincent May 24, 2013 at 04:02 pm
Kalenka is due back in court on Tuesday, April 30 for pre-trial hearings. April 30 was a long time ago. Guess Mr.LaLima didn'treally exist. Sems like there is no justice any more.
Geoffrey Walter (Editor) May 24, 2013 at 04:37 pm
We have May 30 as the date of a trial with Kalenka.

I do not know what you mean by a "senior building." Please be more specific. If you areRead More talking about the Winston-Churchill project and not a senior assisted living facility, we have a small update here: http://mineola.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/flood-mitigation-apartment-projects-moving-forward

Funny how neither comment addressed John's point. A good one BTW...
JOHN HERLING May 30, 2013 at 04:26 pm
Vincent - I don't care what the cost per child is. The actual costs are for teacher andRead More administrator salaries, benefits, pensions etc. Patti - many of the parents and children are living in apartments and houses, some legally and some not, but definitely not in houses that they own. SLJ - Thank you!
Vincent June 3, 2013 at 07:31 am
Ms. Purdy: This is also a act that Mr. Herling should be refering to. An article in the WillistonRead More Times dated Friday May 24, 2013 states: "The Herricks Board of Education is hopeful that a bill drafted by state Sen. Jack Martins(R-Min) to financially penalize landlords who create illegal apartments will stop the practice in the Hericks school district. The bill in it's current form would empower the school district or a municipality in a school district to bring legal action against a landlord who creates an "unapproved conversion" of a single family or two family house to recoup the expense of educating children in those living situations in district shools." And if you don't think the same is happening in the Mineola School District I don't know what to say other than it's your tax money.
