LONG ISLAND, NY -- A local man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a female in the back over text messages.
Jared Gurman, 26, of Williston Park was arrested Monday at 2:40 a.m. after reportedly having an on going text argument with a 26-year-old female friend and victim.
According to Third Precinct detectives, the victim responded to the defendants’ home to discuss the texts but when she arrived Gurman was in front of his residence holding a semi-automatic rifle.
The victim “tried to calm the situation and started to walk inside the home” when Gurman shot the victim once in the back according to police.

Gurman then drove the victim to North Shore-Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, where he was later arrested.
The victim is listed in stable condition.
Gurman is being charged with attempted second degree murder and will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
