UPDATE: Woman Killed Crossing Street in Mineola

A 59-year-old woman from Queens was killed Thursday night.

Update: The deceased woman has been identified as Rosemarie Rosario of Briarwood Queens.

According to Nassau County detectives, Rosario was crossing from the west to the east side of Mineola Boulevard at Grant Street when she was struck in the middle of the roadway by a southbound vehicle. The vehicle stopped at the scene.

The victim landed in the northbound lane where she was then struck by a second vehicle, police said. The second vehicle, a 1999 Ford Econoline passenger van with a driver and three occupants, left the scene.

According to police, Rosario was transported to by the volunteer ambulance service and was pronounced deceased by a doctor at 6:35 p.m.

A short time later, the van was observed at Willis Avenue and Hillside Avenue, police said. The driver of the vehicle, Norman Francis, 55, of Queens, was arrested without incident. Francis is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death. He was arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.

A 59-year old woman was killed in Mineola Thursday night while she was crossing the street according to .

According to information released by police, the incident occurred at 6:12 p.m. Thursday night as the woman was crossing the intersection of Mineola Boulevard and Grant Avenue.

Police did not release the name of either the woman or the driver, who was reportedly arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Police did not provide any further details on the incident as the homicide squad is still investigating.
