Youth Slashed in Mineola for Drug Deal Gone Wrong

West Hempstead man arrested in connection with early-a.m. attack near Jackson Avenue School.

have arrested a West Hempstead man for allegedly selling marijuana to another youth in Mineola early Tuesday morning.

According to detectives, at 12:30 a.m. 17-year-old Matthew Sinatro went to the corner of Marcellus Road and Jackson Avenue in Mineola, near the to sell marijuana to a 17-year-old male victim. The victim fled the scene with the marijuana without paying.

The defendant then found the victim at Jericho Turnpike and Beebe Road, produced a knife and cut the victim on the face, arms and torso. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Detectives located the Sinatro at his home and recovered a black folding knife. He is charged with second degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon in the fourth degree. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.

UPDATE, Oct. 5: Sinatro is currently a student at and goalkeeper on the soccer team. Requests for comment from the school were declined.
