2013 Mineola Pool Opening Set for June 15

Village crews finishing property restorations after damage from Sandy.

The Mineola Village Pool will open for the 2013 summer season on Saturday, June 15.

In preparation for this year’s opening, village crews have been completing serious restorations to the pool and surrounding property after some of the area was damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

At a meeting of the Mineola Village Board on June 5 at the village hall, superintendent of public works Tom Rini stated that all the trees along the southern border and along the west side of the property were lost. Crews installed about 30 Cyprus bushes the weekend of June 1-2. to replace the trees and shield the property line.

“The trees had gotten to a point where they were so big that it was going to be very difficult to trim them,” Rini said. “We were getting a lot of shade and mold on that side so we opted to try the bushes.”

He also noted that they did not lose the cherry tree at the pool which has reportedly been at the location since the pool first opened.

In addition to the installation of the new trees, crews rebuilt sprinkler systems, cleaned the pool and surrounding area as well as the locker rooms.
